Tile roof coating

A refreshed look and durable protection without an expensive roof renovation

Has your tile roof faded, worn down or started to collect moss? Tile roof coating is a smart way to refresh its appearance and improve protection without a major roof renovation.

When is tile roof coating worthwhile?

Coating is a good option when the roof is structurally sound, but the surface has already become worn.

Coating is worth considering when:

  • the roof is clearly worn
  • the tiles have faded or become porous
  • there is moss or other growth on the roof
  • you want to improve the appearance of your home and protect the roof in good time

Coating is not the right solution if:

  • the tiles are widely broken or deteriorated
  • the roof structure has damage or leaks
  • the necessary repairs have not yet been completed
Better appearance The roof looks cleaner and the whole house gains a more finished appearance.
Better protected The coating helps protect the roof from moisture and organic growth.
More sensible Often a much lighter solution than replacing the entire roof.

How the service works

The work proceeds clearly step by step, so the result is neat, durable and carefully executed.

Roof condition inspection

The condition of the roof, attic space, penetrations and underlay is checked before work begins.

01

Moss removal

If needed, moss is removed mechanically before the other work stages.

02

Roof cleaning

The roof is washed with a pressure washer using a pressure and method suited to the property.

03

Anti-moss treatment

The roof is treated with an effective anti-moss agent that helps prevent new growth from forming.

04

Two-coat application

The coating is applied twice with a high-pressure sprayer to achieve an even and durable finish.

05

Site cleanup and final inspection

The work area is cleaned carefully and the result is checked before handover.

06

Handover

We review the finished result together and agree on warranty and maintenance practices. Documentation is prepared according to the property.

07

Why should tile roof coating be done in good time?

A worn tile roof absorbs moisture more easily, gets dirty faster and becomes more vulnerable to deterioration. When the roof is maintained in time, the surface can be restored before problems grow larger.

Key benefits of coating

  • the roof’s appearance improves noticeably
  • the surface remains better protected
  • maintenance is completed before larger problems develop
  • a major renovation can often be postponed

Why is waiting usually not the best idea?

  • a worn surface absorbs moisture more easily
  • dirt and organic growth adhere more quickly
  • wear tends to worsen over time
  • later repairs may become more extensive

Product description

NowoCoat Roof Coating is a water-based coating developed for professional use, backed by decades of experience and product development. NowoCoat is suitable for coating concrete roof tiles from different manufacturers to extend maintenance intervals and service life.

Deterioration caused by weather exposure and organic growth can be halted with NowoCoat coating, while also renewing the roof visually. NowoCoat’s strength lies in its exceptionally high concentration of carefully selected binders.

The result is a high-performance coating with outstanding coverage, adhesion, UV resistance and wear resistance. The roof surface is carefully cleaned and washed, after which it is treated with NowoClean cleaning agent to combat organic growth.

The NowoCoat coating is then applied twice with a high-pressure sprayer. After coating, treatment with NowoClean cleaning agent is recommended every 2–4 years so that dirt and organic growth do not adhere to the roof surface and the coating continues to protect the roof effectively year after year.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

NowoCoat tile roof coating now carries the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Ecolabelled products and services meet strict environmental requirements based on life-cycle thinking. The assessment considers, among other things, material origin, energy use in production and use, chemical use and waste generation across the entire production and consumption chain.

NowoCoat Roof Coating is the tile roof coating most widely used by roofing professionals in Finland.

Frequently asked questions

Not for every roof. Coating is best suited to roofs that are structurally sound but have a worn surface. If tiles are widely broken or the roof structure is damaged, repairs are needed first.
No. In addition to appearance, coating helps protect the roof from moisture, dirt and organic growth. A well-executed job is both a visual and technical improvement.
The earlier wear is noticed, the more often the roof can still be maintained sensibly without heavy measures. An early assessment helps choose the right solution.
A tile roof should be inspected regularly and maintained as needed. In practice, the overall appearance, moss growth, broken tiles and the condition of penetrations are worth reviewing at least once a year and after severe storms.
The cleaning interval depends on the roof’s location and how quickly dirt, moss or other growth accumulates. In many properties cleaning is done every few years, but a shaded roof or one surrounded by trees may need it more often.
Coating becomes relevant when the original roof surface has worn down, the colour has faded or the tiles’ protection has clearly weakened. The right time is usually before wear has caused broader damage.
Often yes. Individual broken tiles can usually be replaced without renewing the whole roof. At the same time, we check whether other parts of the roof need repairs so the overall solution remains sensible.
Often yes, if the roof structure is still in good condition and the tile covering can technically be restored. The final decision always depends on the roof’s overall condition, so the assessment is made case by case before work begins.
The duration depends on the roof’s size, shape, weather conditions and the amount of preparatory work needed. The work usually progresses over a few days, but the exact schedule is always determined by the property.
